Composition per liter:
Peptic digest of animal tissue............................................20.0g
Bile salts................................................................10.0g
Yeast extract..............................................................5.0g
Esculin ...................................................................1.0g
Sodium citrate.............................................................1.0g
Ferric ammonium citrate....................................................0.5g
NaN3 .....................................................................0.25g
pH 7.2 ± 0.2 at 25°C
Source: This medium is available as a premixed powder from Hi-
Media.
Caution: Sodium azide is toxic. Azides also react with metals and
disposal must be highly diluted.
Preparation of Medium: Add components to distilled/deionized
water and bring volume to 1.0L. Mix thoroughly. Gently heat and bring
to boiling. Cool to 45°–50°C. Do not autoclave.
Use: For the cultivation of entercocci in water, sewage, and feces.
